And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. Mark 7:31
On Jesus Christ’s return to Capernaum from the northern border of Israel, He traveled through Decapolis, an area heavily populated by Gentiles. This trip lasted about eight months. The fact Jesus chose to take a lengthy journey through an area steeped in paganism and heathen superstition is interesting.
Why was this necessary?
Teaching – Jesus delivered His message to all people, both Jews and Gentiles.
Training – Jesus prepared the apostles to take the gospel to every creature.
Testing – Jesus had finished blessing the Gentile woman and He was willing to bless all who placed their faith in Him.
Along the way, Jesus Christ met with an impaired man. After taking the man aside and then looking towards heaven with a sigh, Jesus opened his ears so the man could hear and loosed his tongue so the man could speak. In a display of divine power for all to see, Gentiles included, Jesus Christ spoke and the miracle was accomplished. The man spoke clearly and the people were astonished.
Jesus Christ is a Saviour for all mankind.
