Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. Mark 10:15
In this passage we come across an interesting situation, evidently children were taken to Jesus so that He could touch them, probably to pray for the children and bless them, but the disciples refused to allow the children to meet with Jesus Christ. Since Jesus never commanded them to act in this manner, it appears that the disciples took it upon themselves to do what they believed was best. Sometimes our efforts, even those from a sincere heart, produce more harm than good. Their conduct was swiftly rebuked and the children were permitted to go before Jesus Christ.
The Lord and Saviour took this opportunity to teach the disciples a lesson concerning childlike faith and the Kingdom of God.
Here are some attributes found in children.
Children are inquisitive – children seek knowledge and they generally follow what they find.
Children are trusting – children often live by faith and follow with humility.
Children are dependent – children rely upon the care and protection of others.
To enter into the Kingdom of God one must approach God with the same attitude as a child and be willing to trust Him completely for salvation.
It’s this kind of faith that pleases God, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
