Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8
Peter sounded the alarm. Trouble is nearby. Pay attention to where you are and what you’re doing.
You face a merciless enemy who seeks to destroy your life.
The Devil is Dangerous
The world portrays the devil as a deranged cartoon character, tiptoeing around attempting to sway people after his sneaky ways. Dressed all in red, he usually has pointed ears, a sharp nose, and a pitchfork-shaped tail. This devil is more of a nuisance than a danger. No wonder many believe the devil is just a myth.
The Bible states that the devil is real. He’s pictured as a hungry lion seeking his next meal. This tells us that he is fierce, mighty, and merciless.
The devil is God’s bitter enemy and he will do anything to disrupt God’s plans or destroy God’s people.
Beware, because the devil is dangerous.
The Devil is Discontent
The Bible tell us that the devil, like a lion, is wandering about. This gives us a picture of a restless being who is constantly seeking to gratify his wicked desires.
The devil roams this world looking to disrupt, discourage, and destroy. When his work is complete he moves on to another target.
He is never satisfied. The devil constantly roams about hoping to find his next victim.
Beware, because the devil is discontent.
The Devil is Destructive
The devil is not strolling through the world looking to do good. He’s not a benevolent being. The devil is like a lion hunting its prey.
The devil looks for easy targets. The proud, who believe they cannot be overcome or the unprepared, who are not aware of the dangers around them.
When the devil finds vulnerable people, he attacks. And like a lion, his attacks are swift and efficient.
Beware, because the devil is destructive.
The Devil is Devouring
The roaring lion is a hungry lion. This is when the wild animal is the most dangerous because the beast is looking for its next target.
Likewise, the devil is on the prowl. His goal is to destroy souls and he will do anything to fulfill that purpose. The Bible says he is a liar, thief, and murderer. This tells us he will stop at nothing when it comes to devouring souls.
Beware, because the devil is devouring.
Conclusion
Don’t take the devil lightly. He has more power, intelligence, resources, and experience than you do.
You need God’s help. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4
With God you can overcome the devil and his temptations. Seek after God and resist the devil. Refuse the devil’s temptations, thoughts, and ideas. Refuse to give the devil a foothold in your life. Be unyielding when it comes to the devil and his wicked ways.
